Welcome to West County Reads!
West County Reads! seeks to rally community resources necessary to help our kids learn to read and therefore get off to a successful start in school.
Currently, fewer than 30 percent of West County third graders can read at grade level. In some very low income neighborhoods, fewer than 10 percent are fully literate.
Our schools have embarked upon a series of reforms to try to address these needs in the classroom.
However, the successful education of our kids is a vitally important issue for the entire West County community and our schools cannot turn around this dire situation alone.
Reading aloud to children is the single most important activity for literacy development and eventual reading success.
